I am everything and I am none of it

I am everything and I am none of it

I am not a Salafi but I do not believe in mediators between myself and God. I am not a Sufi but I do believe in finding God spiritually, being an extension of him and his creation, striving to be at one with the One and always seeking the truth. I am not a Christian but I do believe in turning the other cheek and finding inner peace in beautiful, serene churches. I am not a Shiite but I believe politics often ruin religion and the struggle is confusing. I am a Muslim but I do not believe religion truly allows for four wives the way we believe it does and I do not believe God gave men the right to beat their wives either. I am not a Buddhist but do believe in meditation and respect the peaceful values they preach.

I am not  a leftist, but I do believe in equal distribution of wealth and I am wary of consumerism, commercialism and the big fishes in the market. I am not a rightist, but I do not believe in the government controlling resources.

I am not a revolutionary but I do not stand for the past regime’s corruption. I am not a foloul (remnant of the old regime) but I do believe there had been some honest members. I am not a devoted lover cooing and crushing over Minister of Defense Abdel Fattah El Sisi, but I am happy he rid us of the Muslim Brotherhood regime. I do not believe in violence but I do not believe in turning the other cheek to those who call for battle against the society.

I am not a conservative but I do believe in following your own set of ethics and having respect for the elderly. I am not an atheist but I do believe in one needs to doubt everything before they believe, I believe in ‘to each his own’ and freedom of speech and beliefs to everyone; I even believe in the right to constructively criticize religions, prophets and even gods. I am not gay and I am religious in many senses, but I do believe I shouldn’t judge others for their sexual preferences and should let them practice what they believe is their right.

I am not a feminist but I do believe in equality, fighting for women’s rights and liberating the minds. I am a feminist but I do not hate men and still want my husband to go to the mechanic on my behalf, not because I can’t, but because he wants to. I am not a feminist but I do believe in women’s right to choose and do not believe in polygamy for men. I am a feminist but I do feel like pampering my husband with a cup of coffee just as much as he would pamper me with a late-night sandwich.

I am not a vegetarian but I do not eat meat or chicken. I am not a vegetarian but I do believe in treating animals kindly and not torturing them for food or clothes. I am not vegan but I do believe we are over consuming protein and it will soon turn against us. I am not an environmentalist but I do believe in conserving mother earth and hugging trees.

I am everything and I am none of it. I am myself and that’s the only label I choose to adopt.

Why do you want to label me?

I apologize I can not satisfy your need to corner me into a certain box because labeling people in certain ways makes you feel more comfortable dealing with them.
