Nine things you can do now that the curfew is 11

Nine things you can do now that the curfew is 11

The curfew was pushed yet another two hours, and the nation was thrilled that we all went back to our teenage curfews; 11pm. It’s such a magical time of the night, isn’t it? Right about when the party gets going and the cool people starting arriving, and then, bam, it’s time to go home before you get grounded for next week’s party, which you will also have to leave early because your life is a tragedy that way.

So here are five things you can now do that the curfew is finally 11pm.

1. Go to the movies: It always seems like one of the last options you despair to when all else fails. But with a month of Ramadan followed by a 7pm curfew donning on us, we have definitely missed the pop-corn eating, big-sreen munching movie experience. So go ahead and celebrate the curfew with a good, old movie night at the cinema. Throw the iMax in for good measure too. Man of Steel is now showing at the iMax.

2. Have a fancy dinner: We have missed nice dinners out where you dress up and put your make up on without feeling like a freak because it isn’t even dark yet. So go to the fanciest restaurant you can afford and put on that dress you’ve been looking at for the past month and hoping Ramadan is over and then hoping for a good curfew.

3. Join a gym: Who wants to spend the last 30 minutes of freedom at the gym when you have just gotten home an hour ago because everyone’s running like crazy trying to reach home before the army gets them. But now, you really have few excuses left not to work out. You have a good couple of hours after you get back home to hit the gym or go to the track now that the curfew is 11pm.

4. Go for a night walk at 10:30: The weather is nice and people had, hopefully, reached home so the streets are empty and ready for you to enjoy.

5. Eat junk for dinner: It was great having light dinners at night and all, but who doesn’t miss 10pm munching before you hit the sack feeling bloated, full and grossed out? Order McDonald’s at 10pm tonight and thank your heavens for the curfew that kept you, relatively, junk-free at night.

6. Shisha time again: We’re sure it wasn’t fun having to have your shisha in under five minutes to make it back in traffic before 9pm. So celebrate the new curfew with a shisha in hand tonight.

7. Travel at night: Weekend travels have become a nightmare without the luxury to travel right after work with a good, blocked Mehwar and packed toll stations available to us anymore. You now have a good six hours to reach your destinations after work and get a good swim and lunch before leaving back to Cairo, so head to the beach this weekend without worrying about spending the night next to the army tanks.

8. Go shopping: With the stores closing and  your working hours back to normal, shopping was not on the agenda. If you’ve missed retail therapy, now is the time to hit the mall again for the perfect mood lifer.

9. Take the kids to the club: As much as we love spending quality time with the kids, we all know how disastrous staying in is for the kids when the sport clubs close at 6pm. So take the kids to the club and get the energy out of them to enjoy a quiet night when you go back home.

10. Plan a one-day trip: Sokhna is an hour and a half away and you have a good 17 curfew-free hours to enjoy. So if you’re not lucky enough to go to the beach for the week, plan a one-day trip to Sokhna and enjoy the waves.
