Umm Kulthum’s heritage revered By Azza Fahmy Jewellery
October 10, 2013 | Hadeel El Deeb 3For past decades and generations yet to come, Umm Kulthum – El Sit (The Lady) – will always be the voice of the Middle East, and Azza Fahmy Jewellery creates a collection in homage to the very ‘Star of the Orient.’
The Suma jewellery collection brings to life the timeless lyrics bringing goose bumps as you delve into their simple but memorable bliss. The pieces are all inspired by the icons influential persona and many of her individual jewellery items. Many of the words inscribed in the collection reflect on the Umm Kulthoum’s sublime music and cultural history in the region.
The collection features a selection of sterling silver and 18ct gold statement neck pieces, bangles, bracelets, earrings, and rings, with all pieces engraved with documentations in tribute and honor to the poets and composers behind the magnificent music and voice of this Egyptian legend.
The diva has left an artistic legacy behind her and construed a dramatic imprint onto Egypts culture in the 20th century, often referred to as Egypts fourth pyramid. A humble country girl with a majestic voice that turned her into Egypts Lady and knighted her by the King, Umm Kulthum has been recognized for her strong patriotic and altruistic stances, dedicating many of her concerts to raising funds for Egypt during the time of war in the 1960s. Umm Kulthum was characterized by her pitch black hair, iconic diamond jewels, and signature chiffon handkerchief, the latter now kept at her museum in Cairo.
Umm Kalthum’s voice is not something you can describe or put in any form of words, no matter how hard one tries; she has a mystical effect that gets to your every cell almost. What Azza Fahmy did to revive that is absolutely beautiful and gives it quite a respectful and fascinating nod through intricate adornments of her most memorable songs.
What more can I say
Shes a role model! A modest woman who turns herself into Egypts number 1 lady. I cherish her so much for her admirable artistic, charitable, and nationalistic affairs, says Azza Fahmy.
If you haven’t done so yet, stop by any of Azza Fahmy Jewellery’s boutiques and do try on Suma’s pieces, and look out for part two of the collection coming out in November 2013.
