We Love: Al Nour Wal Amal Wicker Work

We Love: Al Nour Wal Amal Wicker Work

This has nothing to do with the fact that this beautifully hand-made, wicker set was crafted by a group of hardworking women who are all visually impaired. We are in love with this outdoors set because it’s hip, fresh, adds a touch of modern provincial feel to your balcony and it’s immaculately woven.

It doesn’t hurt either that this was manufactured by Al Nour Wal Amal association for blind girls and all profits and proceeds go to the development of the association. The association, by the by, also has a renowned world-travelled orchestra of young, female musicians who just happen to have no visual sight but plenty of soul and talent.

You can buy this set of two chairs, one table and one couch for LE 3,500 from the association’s headquarters. You can also browse through their collection of wicker work, tapestry, and handmade clothes and garments — you might also be lucky enough to overhear the girls practicing their melodies.

Al Nour Wal Amal Association • 16 Abu Bakr El Sedik Street, after Mahkama Square, Heliopolis, Cairo.

Editor’s note: Look out for an in-depth feature on the girls who simply radiate hope.
