Creativity Meets Quality

November 19, 2013
Creativity Meets Quality

There are interiors shops opening around every corner, it seems to have become the jewelry of businesses. You know the drill, someone spots a talent in themselves and decides to become a photographer, painter, jewelry designer and now, apparently, interior designer.

This is why it’s always refreshing to see a furniture collection that is more than amateur luck and networking. And the reason we love this particular collection is that it’s a limited collection of a maximum of 10 replicas for each piece so you can rest assured it will never be the mass-produced fiasco you get elsewhere.

Lina Alorabi‘s debut collection in the Egyptian markets is a collaboration between Sirocco Gallery and Alorabi, highlighting contemporary design, unique interiors and intricate quality, manufacturing and craftsmanship. Ranging from a table-meets-chandelier unique piece that highlights Alorabi’s design, Sirocco awesome lighting talents and Faragh Designs’ engineer Mohamed Nouh’s quality manufacturing to a Shisha table that is inspired by the local culture but looks fresh and contemporary, the collection is definitely unique.

“I aim to create pieces that are very comfortable for people, have good quality and a unique spirit,” says Alorabi. “I would describe this collection as inspired by Egypt and it’s craftsmen but with more modern aesthetics and functions.”

These are our favorite pieces from the collection, to check out the full range showcased at Sirocco Gallery until November 23rd from 10am to 10pm.

The Zamalek Sofa

The Zamalek Sofa

The Zamalek Sofa

We love this statement sofa. The ‘Zamalek’ sofa reflects the identity of Cairo’s trendy and populous neighborhood. It screams of contemporary design, comfort, confidence and a certain chic practicality. It is upholstered using 100% wool suit fabric and high-quality metal springs to ensure comfort, quality and durability and reflect the intricate craftsmanship needed to work with the metal springs. The frames are made of oak wood.

The Shisha Table

The Shisha Table

The Shisha Table

The Shisha Table is one of our favorite pieces in this collection. It’s not the cliche Egyptian-inspired pieces that

flooded the market recently but it still reflects — though in a much subtle and sleeker manner — the local flavor. The central column is hand-turned from solid oak and it takes a contemporary take on the traditional Shisha.

The Wave Table (shown below)

The wave table is a subtle and versatile addition to any space that adds a touch of modernity without overpowering the surroundings. The table is manufactured from sheets of veneer and has no visible seams or fixings. The glass top is placed within a 1cm routered inset, creating a flush finish.

The Crystal Table

The Crystal Table is a collaboration by Alorabi and Sirocco Gallery and it’s inspired by Sirocco’s intricate lighting designs. It is meant to add a touch of glamour to houses with lower ceilings that can’t afford grand chandeliers. It is manufactured using Sirocco’s expertise with crystal and Nouh’s expertise with stainless steel designs and made of Crystal Asfour beads and chrome plated steel.
