To Do: Engage in Sufism
July 1, 2014The spirituality of Ramadan is what makes the month special, so head out to the Seyoufeya Street near the citadel and witness the Sufi history and spirit to carry you out of the mundane world.
There, you can find the Dervish Theatre and Mawali Dome and catch the Sufi spirit to carry you out of the mundane world. This is an authentic dervish theatre that pays tributes to the Grand Master Jalaudin El Roumy. You won’t catch a dance there, although it had been often frequented by dervishes in the past, but, the architecture and spirituality of the place is contagious.
Have a walk about the street and check Madraset Al Amir Shams El Din Sonkor El Saady where Hassan Sadka, one of the most prominent dervishes in the Ottoman’s Era. Also on Seyoufeya Street, Prince Almas El Hageb Mosque is a must see and it has been renovated in February 2010 with a LE5 million budget.
