Sudanese Zar
May 13, 2013Book your tickets to watch an authentic Sudanese Zar, Sanga, with two of the four left tanbura instrument players in Egypt next Thursday, May 16, at Al Dammah Theatre, at 8:30pm, presented by El Mastaba.
A Sudanese Zar is definitely something to be witnessed, it’s a rich cultural event that is more than just performances, it is a spiritual experience that aims to serve as a mediator between the visible and the invisible, or masters with the people.
Sanga has been introduced to people with Mohamed Ali’s time but has dwindled down with time until Zakaria Ibrahim rediscovered the last remaining players of the tanbura, a popular instrument at Sangas, and founded Rango band to revive the practice. Only four tanbura players are left and two of them are members of the Rango band, performing tonight.
Tickets cost LE30 on the doors or LE20 by reservation.
