Egyptian Designers’ Favorite Cannes 2013 Fashion

Cannes Film Festival is just resonant with glamour, not only is it set out in the charming French riviera, it is also always buzzing with polished-looking celebrities basking in the French beaches’ sun and glory of their success.

We asked three fashion gurus in different fields to give us their red carpet picks and why they love the look. Amina Ghali of Azza Fahmy told us which celebrities wore the most intriguing jewelry, professional make-up artist Soraya Shawky shared her favorite make-up looks from the red carpet and fashion designer Malak El Ezzawy spoke of beautiful gowns — and, of course, the fabulous ladies pulling all these looks off.

Jewelry Designer Amina Ghali of Azza Fahmy:

“I’d have to say there were some fabulous jewellery pieces during this year’s Cannes Film Festival. My favorite looks would have to be by Sharon Stone, Katie Chang, and Alyson Le Borges.”

“Sharon Stone amazed me with two of her looks. For look #1, she wore a de Grisogono multi strand diamond necklace with a clustered line of Cabochon Emeralds right in the centre. The contrast between the white and green emerald against her eclectic blue dress definitely made hers one of my favorite looks this year.”

“As for Sharon’s look #2, I’d have to say back jewellery is back. After adorning her neck, the serpent jewellery beautifully adorned Sharon’s back. Back jewellery has been in trend since the 2013 Oscars, especially after Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway wore their neck pieces backwards, I simply just love the trend.”

“Katie Chang’s was a look to remember! She wore her Christian Dior dress and Swarovski crystal ‘Valora’ brooches. The young actress wore her long hair into an elegant roll-up and adorned it with a stunning Swarovski crystal brooches, making her look absolutely gorgeous.”

“Last Look but by far my favorite has to be by French model Alyson Le Borges who wore stunning dangling long Chopard earrings and cuff, making her look, as usual, breathtakingly beautiful,” concludes Ghali.

Professional Make Up Artist Soraya Shawky:

Shawky’s two favorite make-up looks were English model Cara Delevingne and the Indian former model and actress Sonam Kapoors.

Cara Delevingne

“I loved Cara Delevingne’s sparkly smoky eyes; it looked fresh, sexy and sophisticated. The vintage red lips were a perfect match for the event.  Her super contoured cheekbones with the dark eye brows accentuated her features. I Didn’t really like the dress much but it all worked well for the 1980’s look.”

Another one of Shawky’s favorites was Sonam Kapoors’s nude make up; ” I Loved the matte coral lipstick combined with the nude brown eyes and the long lashes. Super fresh and vibrant,” concludes Shawky.

Fashion Designer Malak El Ezzawy:

“Although I had higher expectations for the Cannes Film Festival red carpet dresses, there are a few that I like and two that are my favorites,” says Ezzawy. Ezzawy picked, of course, fashion godess Cindy Crawford’s stunning white dress and Spanish actress’ Pazz Vega’s fashion forward monochrome look.

Cindy Crawford
The first look: Cindy Crawford
“It’s simple but so elegant. The small details, like the slight draping and the gold neckline, give the dress the red carpet glamour that’s needed as well as accentuate her figure. Of course, the combination of white and gold was simply perfect on Cindy Crawford. The train of the dress was just right too.”
Paz Vega
The second look: Paz Vega
“I loved this monochrome look, absolutely elegant.  The gold detail in the belt, the neckline, the sleeves, the train and everything about the dress says elegant. The combination of black and white with the red lipstick and nails is a classic but with a new twist. The gold earrings and the hair-do complete the look. Definitely a perfect choice for the red carpet.”

Hadeel El Deeb: “I love Marion Cotillard’s beautiful revival of the 1960s beehive hairdo along with the minimal and classy makeup; it brings out her natural beauty as it subtly highlights her expressive eyes. Her choice of Chopard earrings certainly complement her stunningly feminine look.”

Zhang-Ziyi_2573462a in Elie Saab

Hadeel El Deeb: “I am absolutely in love with Zhang Ziyi’s look in Elie Saab’s beaded and stunningly embroidered lavender couture. She definitely stood out with her elegant glow in this one.”

Nadine El Sayed: “I love Indian actress’ Freida Pinto’s Gothic twist on the romantic hair pins, it’s not your usual cutesy butter flies so it complements the classic hairdo perfectly and gives a little quirky twist to an otherwise classically glamourous look.”

Nadine El Sayed: “Marine Vacth’s make up here screams fresh-faced and isn’t afraid to go on the red carpet with minimal make up and a messy hairdo that stay true to her natural beauty.”

Nadine El Sayed: “Hats off to French Argentinean actress Bérénice Bejo’s look, the gown, the androgynous blazer and the quirky bag all say ‘I am confident enough to pull off the geek look even on Cannes’ red carpet.'”
