Summer 2015 Fashion Trends
April 28, 2015Temperature is rising and flip flops are coming out: Summer is officially here, at least for the moment.
Runways for Summer 2015 were all about the 1970s: Think long, flowing, flowery dresses, checkered shirt dresses and skirts, denim jumpsuits, psychedelic patterns, white lace dresses and white on white outfits. Throw in some frills and fringes, a couple of androgynous jackets and long vests and you’ve nailed the summer 2015 look books.
Mesh and Sheer:
Still with us from last season, mesh and sheer are going no where this summer; and for good reason too, they’re pretty practical during those hot summer months, aren’t they? Word of the wise: Please do not ruin this look by coupling it with flashy bras, it’s just trying too hard. Keep it neat and simple.
Lace and Crochet:
Lace and crochet are this season’s must haves, and they must be, given the whole bohemian vibe going on this summer. Couple them with casually loose hair, a few necklaces and flat sandals and you can transition effortlessly from a day out in the city or on the beach into a night out with the girls. They’re also perfect for a romantic summer night.
Denim Everything:
This is an opportunity to couple a few of this season’s trend together; go for a denim jumpsuit or a denim shirt dress and you’ve hit two birds with one stone.
Ballerina Chic:
The romantic ballerina vibe reigned the evening wear this season, think lots of flayers, pouffy dresses and romantic pastels.
Androgynous:
Androgynous is also a trend carried out from last season, but this year it less boxy jackets and more flowing, straight-cut blazers. You can also couple them with an obi belt to combine kimono and androgynous trends.
Feathers and Fringes:
How can it be about boho chic if we don’t throw in a few feathers and fringes? This year though the fringes are subtler than last season’s native Americans trend, so easy on your leather fringes.
Kimonos and Obi Belts:
This is by far the biggest trend this season, almost every designer on the runway had a piece or two inspired by the kimono. Kimono fabrics, patterns, cut, belts; it’s all in this season and really easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Just wrap a satin belt on an old, structured blazer and you’ve nailed it.
Jumpsuits:
Very big this season, and also pretty practical, jumpsuits are great for the office, a night out or even the beach.
Long Vests:
Unstructured and loose-fitting, vests that come midway up your thigh are a great addition to your wardrobe this season. Couple them with high-waisted pants and a crop top or blouse for a a more polished look or simply throw them on a white tee and jeans for a casual-chic feel.
White on White:
White is huge this summer, forget last season’s pastels, forget the dreaded neons, this year it’s neat white. Don’t be afraid to pair a white blouse with white pants this season, and if you’re not for the whole solid white look, go for creams and maybe throw in an obi belt in there. Think polished sheer and satin blouses on perfectly ironed pants.
Bohemian Dresses:
Remember those Mervat Amin dresses? You know the look; long, flowing, flowery, chiffon, maybe even long-sleeved. Romantic bohemian dresses are great for summer and quite versatile. Get the perfect beach waves, couple it with a vintage hair pin and you’ve nailed the nonchalant boho chic.
Gingham:
It’s all about checkers, checkered skirts, shirts and especially shirt dresses. Just stay away from catholic school nannies checkered dresses and go for ones with slits or a quirky vibe to it. Shirt dresses are also huge this season.
Military:
Khaki jackets and jumpsuits are trendy as they are practical, as opposed to wearing all white in the lovely streets of Cairo.
Pattern Clash:
Think Emilio Pucci on steroids; this season designers went all wild with colors and patterns, combining the colors of the rainbow in one piece and then pairing the piece with a totally different pattern.
