Ten Summer 2014 Must Haves
June 23, 2014 | Nadine El SayedThis summer is all about the 1990’s with a touch of tribal and a dash of bohemian. Oh and a little bit of 1960s thrown in the mix. Fashion this season is bold, romantic and Madonna cool all at once. But the best bit is: You have a wide era of trends and you get to combine whichever period of time, political statement or social movement you see fit your personality, believes or even the day’s mood.
Editor’s note: This season is all about floral and tribal prints as well as loads and loads of mint greens, powder pinks and generally summery pastels. Incorporate a touch of tribal or floral into your outfit through bold, statement pants or even add a pop of color through an accessory or a bag.
A fringed Kimono to combine the fringe and the kimono trends and wear it as a swimsuit cover up or to pimp up just about any outfit:
Editor’s tip: Wear it over boyfriend jeans and strappy sandals for a casual chic look or a straight, cotton, full-length skirt and a t-shirt for a versatile day or night outfit.
A laced crop top (with fringes for bonus points) for lazy days on the beach or nights out in the city:
Editor’s tip: Team it up with jeans shorts for a day on the beach or a pair of wide-legged pants for a night out.
High-waisted, wide-legged pants with extra points for floral, tribal or any other daring print:
Culottes for a more practical flirty feminine feel:
Editor’s tip: Culottes are huge this summer, but opt for one that hits right below your knees when you’re standing, the length has to be just right so you don’t end up looking like a catholic school girl. Opt for the Skort, or what we know as “jupe culotte,” for a day on the beach.
A high-waisted structured or pleated midi skirt that looks like you just escaped the set of Grease:
Editor’s tip: Opt for a solid color or a diagonally striped print for mornings and a laced one for the afternoons. The length has to hit either right below the knee or in the mid calf zone but nothing longer.Team it up with a tucked in or a cropped tee for a more laid back look.
A long, straight cotton or pleated skirt:
Editor’s tip: These are perfect for summers in Egypt, but make sure the fabric isn’t too synthetic so that it doesn’t cling to your curves and cause embarrassing wedge moments. Alternatively, invest in a good underskirt!
A neutral cropped tee for all your high-waisted pants and skirts:
A floral crown for a Bohemian touch, and let’s face it, we finally have an excuse to put flowers on our hair for no apparent occasion:
Mules and clogs like you or your mother wore in the 1990s and then laughed at when you saw pictures 10 years later:
Platforms, chunky sneakers and cork wedges:
