Burger and Lobster London

Burger and Lobster London

The name made me cringe, so before you start cringing too, don’t worry,  you aren’t actually served lobsters and burgers in the same dish. Having said that, it might not actually be a bad idea to go for both, I wouldn’t, but many actually do.

I have been hearing ravings about the place that only serves burgers and lobsters, and so we decided to give it a try. We called Burger and Lobster’s City branch to ask if we need to reserve as we’ve read various reviews saying the waiting list is normally rather long. The hostess, however, said we can just drop in since it’s past lunch time and they’re not busy. We got there at around 3pm — way after the English lunch hour and well before dinner time — so we were seated immediately. Word of advice, however, if you’re trying other branches at busier times you might want to reserve, but check their website for their reservation policies as they differ from one branch to another.

The place looked industrially swanky with a massive wine cellar and a view of the fish tank containing the lobsters we’re about to devour. The crowd was young and hip and you should expect to run into a friend or two as it is a hit amongst Egyptians. The waitresses were friendly and attentive and came to see our orders within a few minutes. There isn’t an actual menu as the only two items on the list are burgers and lobsters, so you simply have to choose the cooking level of your burger and whether you want your lobster grilled or steamed. We opted for two grilled lobster with a side of butter and lemon sauce and one order of medium-cooked burger. All dishes come with a side of fries and salad. What the menu lacked in variety for food was more than made up for in drinks, however.

Lobster and Burger 2

Well-done burger with a size of fries and salad.

Our dishes came within 15 minutes of our order and we were equipped with bibs and lobster crackers. The fries were perfectly crunchy — and if that’s not a sign of a good restaurant, I don’t know what is — and the salad was perfectly sweet with an acidic kick from the balsamic vinegar. My company loved the burger and said it was juicy, perfectly cooked and made of quality meat. We found the lobsters well-cooked and the barbecue flavor well balanced. We loved the simple perfection of the lobster itself but didn’t think much of the side butter lemon sauce, so we would suggest you ditch it.

Overall, Burger and Lobster is simple, to the point and scrumptious. We definitely recommend you swing by it for a quick, casual lunch. It has five branches in Knightsbridge, Soho, Mayfair, City and Farringdon.
